artist statement from May 2020

In a nod to Eadweard Muybridge, I explore the silhouette image as a method to understand our relationships in our environment. Armed with various objects, my subjects demonstrate their strength, adaptability, and resistance to the adversities that have plagued humans throughout history. The themes in these silhouettes bring into context current manifestations of enduring societal problems. The result humanizes the sometimes overwhelming struggles facing women and society.
