The act of creating provides a narrative opportunity in defining my responses to the human condition of life. My work emerges through the eyes of a feminist, because I am, after all a female. My ideas are drawn from contemporary events where philosophies and religion often clash. I paint and sculpt directly from the human figure, sometimes allegorically, sometimes in a modern setting, but always with a psychic grounding beneath everyday interactions. You can learn more about me and my work at annejohn.com.

Throughout my life, I have worked diligently in the field of communication. I earned an MFA from SIUC in 2006, giving special attention to theater, ethics and visual communication. I moved to the northwest after graduation to pursue a career. In my personal time I enjoyed performance, dance and visual art through partnerships with local theater companies and other artists.

These days I enjoy curating, creating, learning, meeting people and hearing about their dreams and aspirations. Learn more about my adventures in art and design on my website.

My involvement in the local arts scene began with the Washougal Parks Board in 2011 when we decided to commission the Women Who Weld to create four metal pieces depicting their impressions of the Washougal water front. That lead to beginning of the Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance art walk map and a yearly arts festival. In 2013 I was appointed to the Clark County Arts Commission and helped establish the Anstine Gallery on the sixth floor of the Clark County Public Service Center. This journey continues to introduce me to so many wonderful, creative people, and has reinforced my belief in the power of the arts.

After spending most of my life here in Clark County I am proud to be part of the local creative community. Collage artist, wine steward, cheese monger, nanny & gallery director have all been unique perspectives that influence my daily life. I am happy to answer questions to help guide and uplift anyone interested in art making or viewing.
