May 2020: Stories of Faction

May is the renewal of spring, a season of hope and possibility. Tales of new life returning, of gods and myths and the truth of science bring this welcome greening. We are informed by these renewal stories, be they truth or fiction, seen or unseen. Often, we only get glimpses of the stories, and are left to fill in the gaps. In “Stories of Faction,” works curated from previous showings are brought to you via our Virtual Gallery.

Stories of Faction includes works by Jamila Clarke, Pamela Chipman, Robert Bickel and Pepe Hidalgo. Clarke’s works are meticulously crafted, creating a form of hyper-realism. Chipman’s silhouettes draw the viewer into the strength within individuals as they traverse their day and tend to their tasks. Paintings by Robert Bickel explore the geometric aspects of our universe, with an emphasis on the wave as a metaphor for movement through time and deconstruction. Paintings by Pepe Hidalgo capture elements of stories and include a string which like an umbilical cord, unites him with the universe and gives him access to additional narratives.
